Just a bit more on these FACs. Johnson entered the competition to provide checks with facsimile imprints as fast as Gast did. On the back of one Johnson check, which may have been intended as a sample but was not marked as such, we find the following advertisement.
Considering that the offer was only good to January 1, 1884, it must have been offered months ahead of time, possibly even before July 1, 1883 when real imprints were no longer needed.
This is a Johnson sample check complete with FAC imprint. Note that it was prepared for the Kentucky National Bank in Louisville, but has "Massachusetts" reading up the left side.
Over the next few weeks some further examples of Johnson FACs will be added to this page.
